Plasma Cutter 5mm

Plasma Cutter 5mm

  • Plasma cutters will cut any metal that conducts electricity such as steel, stainless steel, aluminium, copper, brass and other conductive metals.
  • Maximum 5mm steel or stainless steel cannot cut upside down as this damages the tip when used incorrectly
  • It is a single-phase machine
How does a plasma cutter work? plasma cutters use dc voltage to heat compressed air to a very high temperature, where it ionises the atoms and creates a "plasma arc". This flows through the narrow hole of the cutting tip (normally 0.9mm - 1.5mm) at a temperature of about 25,000 - 30,000 degrees fahrenheit. The small jet of plasma pushes through and melts the metal and pushes the molten metal away. It is highly focused when compared to oxy-fuel cutting and comparative results. Never cut upside down as gravity will cause molten metal to damage nozzle tip set the metal that you are using on the table and attach the ground clamp close to where you will be cutting. Set the current 1-2mm? 15 amps 3-5mm? 20 amps turn on the machine by flipping the switch behind the unit into the on position. Use the trigger on the gun to activate the plasma cutter. Note the trigger has a safety that must be lifted before you can depress the trigger. Keep the cutter (nozzle end) close to the metal and use the guide surrounding the nozzle to trace templates if you have them. Nearly all quality plasma cutters have what is called pilot arc. This means you can make a cut with the torch of the plasma cutter without touching the tip of the torch to the metal. Typically when using a pilot arc machine you will hold the tip of the torch just barely off the metal which allows for smoother cuts and increases the life of the consumables on your cutting torch. This feature also makes cutting expanded steel a lot easier and smoother. Protect skin from uv radiation wear darkened goggles or a welding helmet 6 easy steps to set up a plasma cutter: 1. Connect your plasma cutter to a suitable air compressor. Not necessary as our plasma cutter has a built in compressor 2. Connect your plasma cutter to a 240vsupply minimum 20a breaker 3. Connect the earth lead to your workpiece. 4. Connect your plasma cutting torch to the plasma cutting machine. 5. Select your cutting amperage (more amps for thicker materials). 6. Press the switch on your torch handle and move the torch across the work as the plasma arc cuts the metal. You can start from the edge of work or pierce a hole in the middle of the metal. Cut perfect circles with a circle cutting kit and make unique shapes using a template. As there are no heavy gas bottles to lug around, plasma cutters are fairly portable and the minimized heat affected zone with small cut width compared to oxy-fuel cutting is a great benefit.
